đź’ľ Download AIM Version 5.1 for macOS
Once downloaded, double click the “.zip” file to decompress. Note: It’s critical to leave the uncompressed file in your “Downloads” folder for now.
Click on your desktop so that the “Go” menu appears in the top menu bar. Click the “Go” menu and click on “Utilities” at the bottom of the list.
Find and click on the “Terminal” app in the “Utilities” window.
In the “Terminal” app, paste the following code and press enter (enter your login password if prompted - one-time only):
sudo xattr -d com.apple.quarantine ~/Downloads/AOL\ Instant\ Messenger.app
(be sure not to include any extra spaces before or after this code)
Drag the “AOL Instant Messenger” app from your “Downloads” folder to your “Applications” folder.
Launch “AOL Instant Messenger” from your Applications folder.
On your first startup, a prompt appears asking you to approve downloading the AIM installer from archive.org into the wrapper app. Click "Yes" to proceed and wait a few moments for the download to complete. Once the download is complete, the AIM installation wizard appears. Complete the installation wizard, leaving the default installation path untouched.
When the "AOL Instant Messenger" app opens after installation, click “Setup.” In the “Connection” tab, in the “Server” box, set the following parameters: Host: login.oscar.nina.chat / Port: 5190. Press “OK.”
Enter your Screen Name and Password that you registered at NINA.
Click “Sign On” and start chatting like it’s 1999!Â
